Who is more maligned than the modern girl? And who exactly, is she? Questions women deal with every day, they are at the heart of Sisters in our Soul, a story of two generations of college girls, one in the 1920s, the other in the ‘70s. Each wrestles with society’s misperceptions and both find answers at a college for girls. Nazareth College, destined to be a premier place for “the higher education of women”, grows into the ‘learning ground’ where Evelyn’s Jazz Age friends gamble their futures on a tiny school in the flourishing city of Rochester. Can these determined students, guided by the Sisters of Saint Joseph - in their own way history’s premier feminists fashion a trail that is safe for the girls, yet daring enough to assume their place in the sun? To start, the first Nazarenes insist they be taken seriously, but first they are out to prove themselves; to show a skeptical world what they are made of. So from the beginning, they recognize the need to do well, so no one can deny their contention for the title of “Jewel in the Crown” amidst the area’s superior colleges. A “David and Goliath” odyssey, their story is a testament to groups of women whose drive reaches for the impossible. And what of the women who come later? What of Calinda and her group? Equally determined and just weeks out of high school, they arrive in the fall of 1970. There they find themselves on a razor’s edge of more change than they can imagine! These “ultra-moderns”, the tip of the spear of the television age, herald a time when ideas move far too quickly for their consequences to be fully grasped. Years later the generations meet when Calinda and Evelyn unexpectedly find themselves in the same place; brought together by happenstance and compelled to consider how it all came about!
