Description

When a new bill threatens to destroy Minnesota's ruggedly beautiful Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, help comes from an unexpected place: a protection spell cast by four women.

Despite their varying levels of backwoods experience, the women are united by a deep desire to see the BWCA protected. After meeting on the shores of a central lake, they each point their canoes in a cardinal direction and paddle out until they reach their posts near the outer boundaries of the reserve.

The long hours alone on the water, the remoteness of their travel, and the unpredictable weather challenge each woman in a different way, but the importance of their task is not lost on any of them while they are surrounded by the tranquil beauty and vibrant life of the expansive wilderness area.
