In present day Philadelphia, a medical student has a brush with death which triggers hidden arcane talents, throwing him into a centuries old battle between light, dark, good and evil. He struggles to learn about his new abilities not knowing he is the linchpin in the battle and with no rule book, while both a demon and an evil wizard are intent on stealing his power.

"Sentinel of the Light, Awakening" is a fast-paced present day fantasy adventure that puts Dave Warren on a collision course with the forces of Light and Dark. David Warren is a twenty-four-year-old medical student who arrives in a Philadelphia Emergency Room suffering from pneumonia. Dave's condition rapidly deteriorates, he suffers a cardiac arrest and dies. As Dave's soul moves to the next level, he sees The Light. More surprising, he also sees The Dark. As a disembodied voice whispers Dave gets to choose between the two, magical energy infuses his body. Before Dave can decide which course to take, the ER staff resuscitates him. On his way to the ICU Dave believes the experience was a dream until he sees his hands glowing with paranormal energy. Already dealing with the stress of medical school, a fractured relationship with his girlfriend and serious problems with his parents, Dave simply wants to learn how to use his new abilities. Fate, however, would have it otherwise as Dave is pulled into a world filled with magical conflict, wizards, and much more!

Dennis W. Rhoades is a South Carolina based author of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Young Adult novels. He also writes nonfiction and lectures on health and wellness topics. His writing career started in fifth grade with a space ranger themed graphic novel series, continuing with short stories through high school, undergraduate college and medical school. Trained in Osteopathic Medicine, he has practiced Family Medicine along the East Coast. He currently is the Medical Director for the South Atlantic division of a national urgent care company. When not involved in his day job, Dennis writes for the enjoyment of telling a story. He reads "everything with words" with special love for Science Fiction, Fantasy, alternative medicine and paranormal studies.
