About the author
Joanne Midyette has been writing since she was nine years old. Her fourth grade teacher gave an assignment each week for the entire class to write a story using all of their spelling words. She wrote her first story and has been writing ever since! Joanne is a magna cum laude graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC with a BA in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She held a teaching certificate for thirty-one years and taught in public and private schools in Oklahoma, Indiana, North Carolina and South Carolina before retiring in 2012. Joanne and her husband, Bert, live in Columbus, NC. They have been traveling as a husband/wife team, presenting educational and inspirational assembly programs for children in schools, libraries, Head Start sites, preschools and churches since 1996. They use comedy skits, magic tricks, puppets, music and storytelling in their programs to teach young children. Joanne writes the scripts, finger plays and songs for the programs. Joanne's first teaching job was as a remedial reading teacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1978. As she watched her students struggle in the area of reading comprehension, she saw the importance of teaching children to be proficient in reading at an early age. Her goal in writing books for young children is to inspire them to read and to develop a love for reading that they will carry with them the rest of their lives.
