Overview

SYNOPSIS 1

What if you discovered that it was all real? Everything you've ever believed…and didn't. Religion and Science; Mythology and Folklore; Extraterrestrial Life and Paranormal Phenomena. All of it. While moonlighting as a private investigator, in the span of a week Freeman Medgar Providence encounters a nihilistic mercenary who abandoned his existence as an angel of the lord; A 1000 year old hunter of the unexplained who wants to die but can't; An all in one assassin, spy, bodyguard and saboteur who suffers and benefits from a genetic affliction similar to what lore knows as vampirism; A former federal agent gifted with extra cognitive abilities; An unassuming middle-aged man who is not really a man at all, but an android; A cutting edge artificial intelligence of otherworldly origin; and the well meaning, but extremely flawed tech-mogul turned visionary prophet who has recently undertaken a divine assignment and employed all of them toward it. Guided by his namesake (Providence) Freeman must navigate this perilous week in which everything that he has ever believed is confirmed and brought into question, all at once.

SYNOPSIS 2

When the world's foremost tech-mogul - Nathan Steward - is next in line to inherit a divine calling that has been passed down through a series of foreordained caretakers, an equally inherent desire to see this plan through takes him to drastic measures. Compromised by his business sense and venturesome nature, his divine assignment takes a secular turn when in exchange for pay and perks, this visionary acquires the services of an all-star team of extraordinary - and mostly unsavory - freelancers and mercenaries to achieve the most noble of tasks. As the grandeur of this great cause begins to reveal itself to his most recent hire - Freeman - so too does its natural opposition; and in concordance with the revelation of these supernatural challenges, comes the like of this special hire's uniquely provisional ability – the gift of PROVIDENCE.

Description

Providence is a uniquely formatted novel that features 13 chapters, each with marginalia, as well as “special” content before, after and even within that helps to tell the story.   And though this “special” content is absolutely necessary to follow the story, the stuff in the margins is not.  So if you prefer a straight forward experience, stay your eyes on the body of the text.  But if you’re one who wants to understand how it all comes together, then you’ll probably live in the margins.  There are three kinds of “special” content and here are a few summaries to help you understand them.

Glimpse - A cryptic, yet revealing flashback or flash-forward that serves to give insight and/or foreshadow and/or preview future events or an equally mysterious short that in most cases (but not all) follows the exploits of a supporting character away from the story’s lead character and thereby also serves to offer insight in numerous forms.   All glimpses are out of sequence or at least occur within the timeframe of the preceding or succeeding chapter.

Bridge - A short that serves to drive the story and connect chapters.  Though in some cases there is a significant amount of time elapsed between a bridge and its connecting chapter, all bridges are chronologically in sync with the book’s chapters.

UC (unlockable content) - This content is unlocked by specific events throughout the book’s Chapters, bridges, glimpses and even other unlockable content (UC).  This content serves to offer insight as to why a character behaves the way he/she/they/it does and/or of the overall logic of the story.
