Overview
It's raining outside and the clouds look like popcorn. Today is not a day to play outdoors. Looking for something to do, a young boy sees his dad cooking breakfast and begs his mom to allow him to cook. After giving it some thought, his mom gives him the OK. They gather many of his favorite ingredients – including cooked popcorn, pumpkin seeds, and dried fruit, to name a few. When the dish is finished, his parents ask what he made, to which he answers: Popcorn Soup!

About the author
Vikki R. Franklin is a Southern California native and proud African American mother of two adult sons and one grandson. A former preschool teacher, Vikki has over ten years of experience in the classroom and an additional 25 years in child development programs. With a master's degree in early childhood education and a bachelor's degree in business, Vikki has dedicated her life to working with young children. Her storytelling journey began when she heard a child say the darndest thing, which sparked an interest in capturing the hilarity (and wisdom) of childhood through writing. Based on true events, circumstances, and themes that she wants to share with you, Vikki's personal essays offer informative takes on family, parenting, and Black culture.
