As Lewis S. Blevins Jr., M.D., started this book, he thought it would be impossible to convey the sense of everything that he had learned about pituitary adenomas during his career, which spans more than three decades. He also recognized that it would be next to impossible to review the literature and provide a comprehensive scientific review of the subject matter. Such would be impractical, as the purpose of this book is to educate patients, their families, primary physicians, physicians in training, and general endocrinologists. Further, the goal of this book, along with the others in the Pituitary World News series, is to reflect Lewis' opinions and experiences in a way that can be translated into working knowledge, with a primary emphasis on facilitating communication between patients, their families, and healthcare providers.
