About The Author


Dr. Lewis Blevins, Professor of Medicine and Neurological Surgery, is the Director of the California Center for Pituitary Disorders at the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his MD degree at Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospitals. After completing a three-year fellowship in endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he served on the faculty at Emory University for four years and at Vanderbilt University for nine years. He has been on faculty at UCSF for 17 years. He has received numerous teaching awards in recognition of his devotion to educating fellows, residents, and students. Dr. Blevins is also an artist whose oil paintings are held in collections throughout the world. In his free time, he plays the bagpipe, sails, and holds a Mariner's Certificate through the US Coast Guard. He is learning to read, write, and speak Arabic in his "spare time." He received the Excellence in Humanities award from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists in 2024.
