Description

Physician Leadership Pearls: Practical Wisdom from the Trenches of Healthcare is a practical guide to the challenges, choices, and rewards of leading physicians and healthcare organizations. Drawing on decades of experience as a physician executive, Richard L. Goldberg, MD, moves beyond traditional leadership theory to share lessons learned from the realities of healthcare leadership—where highly trained professionals, complex organizations, limited resources, competing priorities, and constant change collide. Through stories, practical examples, and concise Physician Leadership Pearls, the book explores the essential work of the physician leader: setting a vision, shaping culture, building effective organizations and teams, leading change, developing strategy, executing results, managing difficult people, navigating organizational politics, understanding finances, and ultimately preparing the next generation of leaders. Written in a candid, conversational style, Physician Leadership Pearls is intended for physicians considering leadership, those already in leadership positions, and anyone interested in what it really takes to lead in healthcare. Above all, it is a book about lessons learned not in the classroom, but in the trenches of healthcare leadership.
