Dawson served a four-year Active Duty tour working in United States Navy Telecommunications and finished his Military retirement as an Army Chaplain. A Combat Veteran, he received the United States Legion of Merit Award in retiring from Army Chaplaincy at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
