This book was produced for the Passion Play in 2010, and can trace its format back to guides that were published for the 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000 Plays. It is concise, informative and full of colour. It covers all of the historical background and traditions, from the first Passion Play to be performed in Oberammergau in 1634 up to the present day. The Text, Music, Tableaux and Stage Sets, the Theatre, and the key people who direct, design and perform the Play. The changes that have been made in recent Plays, particularly to the Text and staging. There is a tour of this beautiful alpine village with Plan, and brief descriptions of visits that can be made in the surrounding area. Finally, there is a Synopsis of the Passion Play. About the author
Ray Goodburn is an ordained pastor who served parishes and as a teacher of religious education. Latterly he has worked for a specialist tour operator, accompanying groups to Austria, Germany, Italy, Israel and Jordan, Turkey, Greece and several other countries besides. He has attended several Passion Play series in Oberammergau and carried out extensive research on the ground, all of which is reflected in this book.
