Overview
From the towering pines of Leesville to the sweeping cypresses of Lafayette, the state of Louisiana has been the inspirational backdrop for Lola Willis's November Keepsakes, a chronicle of love in all its passionate forms. Lola's first collection of poetry and short fiction comes ten years after its completion, published upon the death of her firstborn child who was her ultimate driving purpose behind these works seeing the light of day. Pain, love, woman, faith... These chapters trace an era of a woman's life in times of despair and fulfillment, as is the nature of lasting love.
Description
Author's Note: Truthful love is never a perfectly assembled and delivered thing. Growth and deepening are at turns euphoric and torturous; I write through it hour by hour, the only healthy way to metabolize feelings larger than I am.
November Keepsakes is a collection of raw moments in a history, some drowning and gasping for breath, some floating, some walking upon the surface, and others emerging altogether. Elation is preserved, pain is cut from me. The words are no longer living but are harmless keepsakes, truth of the woman I’ve been. I turn them in my hands, relive, then return them to the velvet-lined box until the next is poured and hardened.
