As a scientist working in Alaska in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alyssa was inspired to write this story after visiting a farm devoted to responsibly reestablishing the musk ox population. These once-endangered creatures are called "Oomingmak" by Alaska Natives, which means "The Bearded One", and their wool is some of the finest in the world. Proceeds from this book will be donated to continued musk ox conservation efforts.
