Stories about why the sun went dark are told in classrooms, but no one knows if they're true. Finnegan, a curious boy, longs to help his little sister, Shine. His search carries him from light clinics and healing gardens to the Photon Lab, where prisms and mirrors reveal the science of illumination. Guided by bioluminescent dragonflies and entrusted with two enchanted stones, he must cross a labyrinth to reach Mad Magnus and the forbidden Spectra-Oracle—a magical telescope said to reveal the secrets of the universe. Along the way he finds help in unexpected places: glowing dragonflies, a teacher who believes in him, and stones that hold a mysterious power.
