When eleven-year-old Michael Benton and his family move into an old house near Chicago, Michael meets a ghost named Kirby Scott, who looks to be about the same age as Michael. Michael and Kirby's growing friendship and shared sense of humor allow Michael to learn about Kirby's dilemma and his family's secrets. With the help of his classmate Vickie Vargas, Michael and Vickie come up with a plan to help Kirby resolve his dilemma.
