Through a series of short stories that begin at his birth, Karma Redirected: How Did They Let You Become a Teacher relates the mostly true experiences of a mostly real boy named Mo Mickus. Bouncing from school to school, enrolling in ten before he starts the 11th grade, his dull understanding of the world allows his dark side to flourish, and he launches a war against society—focusing on school and his teachers. But a brief and unpleasant stint in the United States Air Force paves the way for an encounter with a Buddhist philosophy, and he sets out to turn things around. Karmic retribution is effectively enacted when, at the age of 40, Mo becomes a middle school teacher. Able to draw upon his own experiences, he leaves the lower worlds to transform his karma—both good and bad—into a mission.
In this fictionalized memoir of his own experiences, Mike Morris explores his coming of age as a juvenile delinquent and how adopting a Buddhist philosophy brought his life full circle.
