About The Author

Svenya Nimmons is the proud daughter of a German mother and African-American father. As a brown girl, growing up in the South with a Swedish name and a Southern accent, Svenya credits her understanding of self through her diverse upbringing from both sides of her family. Through her challenges in life, she welcomes each blow as an opportunity to pack it under her feet as she rises to the top of her mountain of purpose. Svenya aspires to expand her influence around the globe by being a positive role model for the emerging multiethnic community. She encourages them to look within to find their purpose and value. After many personal experiences of feeling like an outsider, her best weapon has been her persistence to remain faithful and confident. Although it took many years to finally get it right, she now shares her struggle and the lessons learned. Her weapon of defense is powered by her refusal to fit the mold that the world has so many times attempted to set for her. Although this is Svenya’s first book project, she’s no stranger to public appearances. She has worked the stage as a pageant queen, model, dancer, emcee and guest speaker.  A graduate of The University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications, Svenya has used her talents to uplift youth during dance workshops, leadership camps and promotional tours for several major brands such as Hanes, Wal-Mart, Dunkin’ Donuts and America Online. Svenya’s drive to promote personal development has anchored former organizations such as 3D Dance Management, Divas on a Dime and presently, Swirl Power. Swirl Power includes a website owned and maintained by the writer in which she posts news resources, hair advice, apparel and hair products specifically for the swirled world of young men, women and parents.
