About the author
Pictures and data were compiled by The Applegate Trail Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The chapter was organized April 17, 2010 in Grants Pass, Oregon. Its name was derived from the Applegate Trail which was blazed in the Spring of 1846 as an alternate trail for pioneers traveling westward to Oregon, hoping it would be a safer passage. The book includes the names and submitted pictures of Josephine Count veterans who served in the Vietnam War. In addition there are drawings, poems, and an essay done by local students ; proclamations by leaders in our government; pictures taken in Vietnam during the war; poems and other tributes in support of and by these Josephine County Vietnam Veterans. The objectives of this Chapter and the NSDAR is "To perpetuate the memory and the spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence…to cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the possessions of liberty".
