"Joining Force with Glory" is a chapter book about a girl from a military family (named Glory) that is written especially to appeal to kids ages 7-10. Glory, a spunky 'Army brat' encounters difficulties in her third move to a new school in the middle of the school year. Luckily her new teacher, Mrs. Wonderbee, is excited to have Glory share her story with the class and reflect to her classmates (civilians especially) some of the differences between military and civilian family lifestyles. One particular student, Hank, is not impressed and it seems like he is going out of his way to make Glory's life miserable. When Mrs. Wonderbee gives the class a writing assignment about freedom, Glory learns that she and Hank aren't as different as she previously thought. She rises to the challenge and manages to extend understanding and compassion to him in a most amazing way. Included at the end of the book is a brief history of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." About The Author

Like Glory, Lisa Renee Guy, was no stranger to moving from place to place while she was growing up. She was an "Army Brat," a term affectionately given to children of Armed Service people. Her father was a USMA, West Point graduate and an US Army officer. In her first 17 years of life her moves included Ft. Campbell, KY, Ft. Benning, GA, Nashville, TN, Monterey, CA, Verona, Italy, Berlin, Germany, Boonville, MO, Clearwater, FL, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Ft. Sill, OK and Fairfax, VA. Her dad experienced 3 "hardship tours" being away from the family, in Korea, Viet Nam and Laos for a year or more. Her maternal grandfather was a Navy Captain, in World War II aboard ships. And her father-in-law also in the Navy, served aboard the Enterprise ship during the war. Throughout her childhood, Lisa loved to read, but there were no books about children like her, being in and living in the life of a military family, with experiences like her that she could relate to. At the University of Tennessee, in her junior year she took a children's literature course. It planted a seed that sprouted several years later. She married her Fairfax High School, Fairfax, VA sweetheart, Jerry Mallen in 1977 a month after graduating from UT. She loved reading children's books to her 3 children, Tommy, Cayce, & Tara when they were young. A visiting author/illustrator came to Tommy's 2nd grade class in 1988, to showcase how she wrote and illustrated her books, and that planted a seed of desire in Lisa to want to do the same thing. She began writing her own stories down, researched the publishing industry and mailed her manuscripts off to them. In 2000, a Canadian publisher selected one of her manuscripts out of 800 sent by others, to publish. A Canadian version of "Elton the Elf" was published in 2000 and a U.S. version hardcover book of Elton the Elf was published in 2001. The publisher of Elton the Elf went out of business, and Lisa sought out other options to continue keeping Elton the Elf published and in circulate. She found Book Baby and republished that book. She also freelanced for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and The North Hills News Record in 1996-98, and Beanie Mania Magazine and The Naperville Sun in 1999. She self-published "Joining Forces with Glory," in 2011 and "Paige Persnickety's Purr-fect Pet," in 2012, however that publishing company for both books went out of business in 2025. Therefore, Lisa found a home for Joining Forces with Glory in 2026, the year of the Birthday of our country with Book Baby, as she had done with "Elton the Elf" several years before. Following living in Naperville, IL for 10 years and Chicago, IL for 10 years, her husband, retired from his career. They moved to a lake in VA. They also now have 6 grandchildren, with whom Lisa enjoys reading to when they visit. Lisa belongs to the SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators) and Authors Guild. Throughout her writing journey she did author visits and continues to do so at schools, libraries and other events and still continues to occasionally when the opportunities arise. Joining Forces with Glory is a book for children, adolescents and families - both military and civilian. It is as relevant today as ever, promoting patriotism, and honoring all branches of military service as well as recognizing military families and civilian families. God Bless America
