Overview
"Joining Force with Glory" is a chapter book about a girl from a military family (named Glory) that is written especially to appeal to kids ages 7-10. Glory, a spunky 'Army brat' encounters difficulties in her third move to a new school in the middle of the school year. Luckily her new teacher, Mrs. Wonderbee, is excited to have Glory share her story with the class and reflect to her classmates (civilians especially) some of the differences between military and civilian family lifestyles. One particular student, Hank, is not impressed and it seems like he is going out of his way to make Glory's life miserable. When Mrs. Wonderbee gives the class a writing assignment about freedom, Glory learns that she and Hank aren't as different as she previously thought. She rises to the challenge and manages to extend understanding and compassion to him in a most amazing way. Included at the end of the book is a brief history of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Reviews:
"...It takes an army brat to know the subject so well. Lisa clearly writes from experience and from her heart."
" My son's father is in the military and this book definitely hits home!...Its for every family. It's not only for military families because it tells of how the soldiers fight for us & keep us safe on a daily basis."
"Very well written and appropriate for issues children are faced with today."
"Enjoyed this story... Glory helps you see from the inside out the challenges of children of members of our military. Joining Forces with Glory brings understanding to those who may never have considered those challenges."
And from Lisa Mallen herself, "It's a book I wish I could have read when I was an Army Brat, but since there were none back then, I decided to write one myself! And here it is! I hope you and your children enjoy it!"
This is a book that celebrates America and the people through the years have helped to keep it free and safe. God Bless America and Glory, Glory Hallelujah!
