Jasir's Journey Through the Alphabet: A Book of Affirmations is a reflection of daily conversations between Jasir and his mommy. Each morning, the two recite the alphabet as Shikema gives a descriptive adjective for each letter to affirm Jasir as a courageous, determined, and intelligent African American young man. Although the book is geared towards ages birth - 4, it's beneficial for children of all ages!

As parents, we are tasked with the responsibility of building up our children to believe that greatness lies within them. As a parent to an African American male, in a world where he is automatically thought to be less than simply because of his skin color, my responsibility began when Jasir was in utero. I am intentional about pouring positivity into his bucket and teaching him to recognize all of the great things about himself that are intrinsic. I'm helping him to define himself before the world attempts to do it for him. The words I speak will become his mindset. I choose to speak life!
