Description
Have you ever had your privacy invaded? What if you have a diary and find out someone you know has read your private thoughts without your permission? How would you respond? This is one book with two stories about the same situation. In “I Would Never Do That To Her,” Soley immediately jumps to what seems to be the obvious conclusion and reacts with anger when she discovers her sister Haley reading her diary. She explains her thoughts and feelings toward Haley as they evolve. After reading Soley’s story, you are asked to flip the book over and read the same story from Haley’s perspective. In “She Yelled Until She Was Spitting,” Haley explains her side, her thoughts and feelings. After reading both sides, ask yourself: What would I do if this happened to me? Each book in the Flippinstories collection portrays a true-to-life situation that might occur at some point in the lives of young people and how the characters handle it: with clear thinking and ultimately looking at it from the other person's perspective.
About the author
Where does author and illustrator Anita B. Leeve get her inspiration for her Flippinstories? By hanging out with six of the most highly-creative little people in her world, her own grandchildren. “They dazzle me with awe-inspiring stories of their own experiences,” she admits. As a loving mother and grandmother, Anita has spent years cultivating the emotions of patience, thoughtfulness and empathy, first in her two sons and now in her six grandchildren. One of their favorite activities is telling each other exciting stories, based on things going on in their lives. After the first one tells his or her story, the next one comes up with a flip side of the same situation. Then each one has a chance to tell how they would deal with such a situation. Inspired by these stories, Anita has created Flippinstories, The Misunderstood Collection, so that other young people may learn how to control their emotions as they face challenging situations throughout their lives. Her enthusiasm for raising children to be strong, independent, self-reliant but compassionate is apparent in her stories.
