Overview

"I Lost My Tooth!" is about a little girl who loses her first 8 baby teeth in various ways, even actually 'losing' a tooth and never finding it. Information about why and how children lose teeth is helpfully provided, including why a dentist may sometimes have to remove a baby tooth. Children around the ages of five and six are naturally curious about losing teeth as they see their classmates and siblings begin to lose teeth. They become very excited at the prospect of losing their own teeth and wonder when and how it will happen. A journal at the end of the story allows young readers to record how they lost their baby teeth.

Description

Losing a tooth is one of childhood’s biggest milestones, sometimes funny, sometimes a little scary, but always unforgettable.  I Lost My Tooth! by Barbara Mis Kelly follows a lively little girl as she loses her first eight baby teeth in all kinds of surprising ways.  Along the way, children discover why teeth get wiggly, how they fall out, and even how a dentist may occasionally need to help.

With illustrations created by a middle school student, the author’s granddaughter, an art instructor, and a landscape architect, the book is as creative as it is joyful.

At the end, young readers can record their own tooth-losing adventures in a special journal section, turning the story into a keepsake.

Perfect for ages 4 through 11, I Lost My Tooth! helps children approach this milestone with curiosity and confidence while giving families a book to read, share, and remember together.

Through the adventures of a bright little girl named V, readers are invited to experience the many surprising ways she loses her teeth: while eating cucumbers, biting into an apple, or even doing a handstand on the rug. Each short moment feels playful, relatable, and wonderfully real, turning something that can be a little scary for young children into an event filled with laughter and pride. The author’s ability to mix humor and reassurance makes this book a perfect read for children who are just beginning to experience wiggly teeth of their own. The story is not only engaging but also subtly educational. Barbara Mis Kelly gently teaches readers about baby teeth, permanent teeth, and how our mouths grow and change, all without ever losing the fun, conversational tone that keeps kids entertained. The language is warm and simple, ideal for early readers or a cozy bedtime read-aloud. Each drawing brings V’s story to life in a way that children will instantly connect with, while parents will appreciate the cheerful and expressive art that reflects the story’s joyful spirit.
