Overview
Every organization keeps two scoreboards. There's the one on the wall, with goals and reviews and ratings. And there's the one that actually decides: who gets heard, who gets backed, who gets the benefit of the doubt. Nobody posts the second one, and plenty of careers stall without their owners ever learning it was there.
Hacking the Scoreboard is a field guide to that second board, written by someone whose wiring never read it naturally. Drawing on twenty-five years inside large organizations, Matthew Clapp maps the rules nobody writes down: why performance isn't enough, why your work doesn't speak for itself, why sponsors matter more than mentors, and how a few visible mistakes can become the story people tell about you.
It's for anyone who's ever suspected that everyone else got a handbook they never received. You don't have to become someone new. You have to see the game, and then play it as yourself.

There's another scoreboard. Learn to read it.
In every organization, an invisible system is always at work: tracking, weighing, and deciding long before you ever get feedback. It doesn't show up on charts or in reviews, but it shapes your opportunities, your reputation, and your future. Hacking the Scoreboard is a neurodivergent field guide to understanding the unwritten rules of corporate life, so you can stop guessing, see the game, and play it as yourself.

Inside: The unwritten rules, the rules nobody writes down, and the three reasons nobody will. Visibility that counts, because your work doesn't speak for itself and what gets seen decides. Sponsorship and advocacy, because mentors explain the game and sponsors get you chosen. Timing and context, so you can read whether the moment can carry your truth, and know what to do when it can't. Playing it as yourself, what the game takes from you, and how to win it without becoming someone else.

You can't change a game you can't see. This book makes it visible.
About the author: Matthew Clapp is a data and analytics executive with twenty-five years of experience inside some of the largest, most competitive companies in American healthcare. A former management consultant and most recently a Vice President of Data & Analytics, he has spent his career building teams and scorecards that changed how Fortune 500 organizations make decisions. Diagnosed neurodivergent early in life, he learned the unwritten rules by breaking them. He holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Georgia and an MS in Business Analytics from NYU's Stern School of Business. This is his first book.
