Description

Cate McKenna knows Eliza well enough to know that even death was unlikely to make her reasonable.  After Eliza's funeral, Cate heads for Lost Creek, the Texas creek where their friendship began, carrying her best friend's ashes and one final promise she intends to keep. Over the course of a single day beneath live oaks and open sky, the past refuses to stay politely in the past. Memories return in pieces: childhood summers, marriages, motherhood, arguments, laughter, old wounds, ridiculous adventures, and the complicated loyalties that can bind two people together even when life pulls them apart. As Cate wanders the limestone creek bed and revisits the places that shaped them both, she begins to understand that saying goodbye is not the same thing as erasing what came before—and that the truest friendships are rarely the neatest ones. Rooted in the Texas landscape and told with warmth, humor, and an unsentimental tenderness, GEODE is a story about friendship, grief, forgiveness, and the people and places that leave their mark on us long after we think we've moved on.

About The Author

Monica McCann grew up in Brady, Texas, in the heart of the state she still considers home. Creeks, live oaks, wildflowers, horses, back roads, small towns, and long friendships shaped both her childhood and the stories she tells. A longtime educator, Monica spent decades in public schools before turning more fully toward writing. Her work is rooted in place, memory, family, humor, and the complicated bonds that endure across a lifetime. She now lives in southwest Missouri, but Texas remains the landscape she knows best and returns to most often in her writing. GEODE, her debut novel, grew from that landscape and from her fascination with the people and places that continue to shape us long after we leave them. She may live in Missouri now, but the Texas flag at her front gate would like the record to show that the matter is not entirely settled.
