He was captured, taken far away, and sold to the highest bidder. But this clever boy devised a way to deal with the brutal reality of slavery. Two things proved to be his saving grace:  the lessons he had learned from his mother and his special love for animals.

About the author


Jane began writing children's picture books while working as a child advocate for at-risk youth and their families in rural West Virginia. Her stories shine a light on basic human rights and animal rights. She and her husband have 5 children, 4 grandchildren, and a fun collection of rescue animals. Jane was presented with the WV Children's Task Force "Extra Mile Award" in 2011 for her work as an advocate and tutor.
