Overview
In Florida, an unlikely assortment of animals pitches in to help a displaced Cuban butterfly return to her homeland of Cuba. Creative and captivating, "Florian the Fly and the Special Delivery of Camila de Cuba" features a tiny hero named Florian, an uncommonly clever and empathetic fly from Germany. The story is written in English and Spanish and contains stunning watercolor illustrations.
Description
Upon Florian's arrival to Florida in book one of this bilingual children's book series, the German fly finds a weak and struggling Cuban butterfly named Camila, who has arrived on a cruise ship from Cuba. Using the setting of the beautiful Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Camila thrives and becomes a friend to many other native butterflies living there. However, jealousy and envy have some who plot Camila's demise. It is only with the help of other species living in the garden that Camila survives. Florian must use his extraordinary wits and abilities to come up with a plan that brings her back to her native island. Will there be enough time to save the small snail population? Will Camila, her friends, and Florian find safety from the approaching storm? This book is written in English and Spanish, fostering the retention and learning of a foreign language. It may also be used by teachers of Spanish or English, as an exciting tale of fortitude and resilience.
