Description

On a quiet stretch of beach, on the eve of her ninetieth birthday, an elderly woman sits alone lost in thought. As the waves whisper against the shore, she journeys through the echoes of a past not chosen, reminders of dreams deferred, and roads not taken. Envisioning what her life could have been if she had lived the life she planned. As the tide rolls in, she reflects on a life shaped by societal constraints, personal sacrifice, and quiet resilience. In her mind, she becomes Evonne Louise Marie. A young Black girl born in the 1920s who defies the expectations of her time to become a lawyer in the American Midwest Echoes of a Dream Deferred is a historical memoir wrapped in fiction. A hybrid tale that reimagines the life that could have unfolded had childhood dreams not been deferred. Through this woman's eyes, we witness a life of ambition, struggle, and triumph in a world few women, especially Black women lived. This story explores her life. It delves into her upbringing, career, romances, personal struggles and life achievements. Echoes of a Dream Deferred explores the choices that shape us and the dreams that never fade. Through the lens of one woman's journey, this novel asks: Can we ever make peace with the lives we didn't live?

About The Author

After dedicating twenty years to serving others as a medical social worker at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle, Delores embarked on a new chapter. One shaped by creativity, reflection, and storytelling. Embracing the world of computers, she spent the next two decades inspiring others, sharing her passion for storytelling, teaching "Writing Life Stories" classes and encouraging people to preserve their own histories. A lifelong writer, Ms. Davis has previously crafted numerous manuscripts and self-published six books chronicling her family's rich legacy, The Immigrant, Nine Decades of Color, The Ancestors, A Journey of Discovery: Meeting Mom and Roots and Branches. Others, such as, Writing Your Life Story, The Upside of Aging and The Gift of Words, reflected more on her love for storytelling and her passion for preserving memories.
