Description

Dragon takes the reader on a captivating journey of romance and self-discovery. This novel is based in part on the true story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) organization. The protagonist's journey is a tale of love and adventure set against the cauldron of World War II in Germany. This is the story of a woman born to Jewish parents in Berlin. She narrowly escapes capture by Nazi death squads and is secreted out of Germany to America. She is only fourteen years old, alone in the world, and has lost everything: her family, her country, her language, and her religion. At school she was the target of constant bullying, both in Germany and America, and her adolescence years were a very painful time. She was friendless, introverted, and unhappy. While growing up in California, she faced difficult challenges and many forms of discrimination, some of which are unique only to women. In order to survive, she learned to suppress the terrifying memories of her life in Nazi Germany and eventually she blends into the American lifestyle and graduates from a prestigious university. Grateful for the many opportunities that America had given her, she, like thousands of other women, wanted to contribute to the war effort. Her chance becomes a reality when she joins the Women Airforce Service Pilots as a ferry pilot. Through it all, she finds true love and happiness, and rediscovers the country that she loved so many years ago. As the missing pieces of her extraordinary life fall into place, she discovers life's greatest treasure… her true self.
