Description

Journalist Balayna (Bally) Ketos records an amazing event she and her mother witnessed aboard a whaling ship. This inspires her to write a series of strange stories as her career takes her from one locale to another. In each story, a species of nonhuman has developed a behavioral or physical "enhancement" that allows it to retaliate against human cruelty--which alters its chances of survival for the better. Importantly, these organisms have subtle connections to people who support their pursuit of justice.

About The Author

Dr. Brandis Hartsell is a retired marine biologist and educator. She was raised in upstate New York by two great parents who encouraged her interest in the arts and sciences and supported her strong empathy for nonhuman animals. She attended Stony Brook University and Coastal Carolina University as an undergraduate and earned her higher degrees at the University of Georgia. She has enjoyed a fulfilling career teaching many kinds of science to children and adults and working in the field with marine mammals, sea turtles, and wolves. She's a prolific writer but has so far published only a dissertation, a few articles, and a children's book about jumping spiders. She is encouraged by the opportunity to share with readers a few other stories that might do well with a little publishing. However, writing is only one diversion among many. She has shamelessly used every one of her classrooms and the science center from which she retired as venues for unique projects and products. She enjoys playing guitar (although little progress has been made since the age of thirteen), as well as international travel, reading, weight training, cycling, and walking. But she may soon age out of four of the five. If you are a reader with a child in your life, or you're a wannabe spider-lover, or you just like reading children's books (so does this author), you'll find You Can't Squish a Spider That Dreams on the BookBaby, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble websites.
