Description

When Roxanne's brother leaves for college, Roxanne is utterly distraught and tearfully tells the class that she won't see him for four years. This gives their teacher, Miss Edna, an opportunity to discuss many aspects of attending college with the students and to set Roxanne's mind at ease. Most young kids are unable to picture their teachers as 20 year olds and the students laugh riotously at Miss Edna's misadventures. As a college student Miss Edna caused quite a commotion during her college's annual club fair and caused a fair bit of disruption in The Louvre museum during her semester abroad in Paris. She also captained her team in the college's annual bed race. But did her team win? Miss Edna teaches Roxanne and the class about different types of colleges, what it means to choose a major, having a roommate, study abroad, and the importance of finding a balance between schoolwork and the fun of campus life.

About The Author

Helping students achieve their dreams is Adrienne Leinwand Maslin's passion and is the reason she spent the first 45 years of her career helping college and university students achieve success. What that experience taught her is that too many students come to higher education, or assume adult roles, socially, emotionally, and academically unprepared for what is before them. With that reality as her motivation, and with her dedication to student and personal success in college and in life, Adrienne has written numerous articles about the college experience and her series of graphic novels, She's Roxanne!, was born. Adrienne has worked at large and small, urban and rural, two-year and four-year, elite and non-elite, and public and private colleges and universities throughout the U.S. Although she has worked in a variety of different capacities as an administrator and an instructor, the highlight of any position she has held was the knowledge that the work she was doing would in some way help students achieve their goals. Adrienne holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont, an MEd in Counseling from Boston University, and a PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Oregon. When she is not walking her dog, Roxanne, or working on writing projects, you can find Adrienne reading, traveling, at the gym, shopping for jeans at Marshalls, or enjoying the company of family and good friends over good food. The meal always ends with ice cream!
