The CodeYourSelfTM national competition combines creativity, art, and coding to inspire more girls to pursue computer science while also helping change society's view of what a coder looks like. The competition, open to girls in grades 3-12 in the United States, is easy enough for first time coders – for many contestants, CodeYourSelf™ was their first time writing a computer program – while still being engaging enough to challenge more experienced coders.

Each year's competition has a unique theme. The 2023 theme was My Super Self! - whether it's a special talent, personality trait or something they love about themselves, we asked Code/Artists to code a self-portrait that shows off their awesomeness! Each coded self-portrait is accompanied by the coder's photo and a short statement, providing additional meaning and reflection. The coded portraits in this book were the top submissions from across the entire United States.

Code/Art is on a mission to increase the number of girls in computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We strive to put young women, particularly young women from historically underrepresented groups, on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good.
