Cleveland Boomer Memories captures the essence of growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, filled with nostalgic memories and moments. It was a joyous time of ice cream trucks and catching lightning bugs. Euclid Beach Rides and sledding down the Cain Park Hill, Downtown visits for Frosty's and shopping at Higbees, Halle's and May Company and taking in a show at one of Cleveland's jewels at Playhouse Square theatres. As the suburbs grew, families moved further east and west , affording new opportunities for work and work. Shopping malls like Parmatown and Severance Center popped up, providing convenience and a place for teens to meet up. Boomers took lessons in piano and other instruments, joined the scouts, and enjoyed Saturday afternoon matinees and cartoons at local movie theatres, like the Center Mayfield Theatre or the Vogue. Born at just the right time, Boomers enjoyed innovations and new technologies. Watching TV as a family was a "thing," and hearing "Plop, plop, fizz, fizz" or "It takes a licking but keeps on ticking" brought to mind products used in every home. They witnessed some of the most extraordinary events, from the first American space launch to the death of important leaders like, JFK, MLK, and Bobby Kennedy. Sweeping cultural changes affected the lives of many from Civil Rights and feminism movements, to the Viet Name War and the Ken State Shootings. Most memorable, of course, is...Baby Boomers had THE BEST MUSIC EVER...Elvis, Motown, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones - and everything in between. Boomers Rocked...and still do. These memories are but the tip of the iceberg. You don't have to be a Baby Boomer to enjoy these reflections of a vibrant, community-focused era in Cleveland and its suburbs.
