Overview

Want to know what wisdom is? Boomerwisdom defines wisdom as a combination of knowledge, experience, and intelligence. Members of the Baby Boomer generation developed wisdom throughout their lives in a fashion unique to their generation based on the events and developments that took place within the years of 1946 - 1964. Boomerwisdom contains solicited anecdotes from the equivalent of over 1500 baby boomer years, presented along with a discussion of the importance of play, nature with nurture, and the wisdom generating events during the transformative 1960s.

Description

The Baby Boomer generation began in 1946 and ended in 1964. At over 74 million births, it was likened to a python swallowing a pig as boomers aged into the 21st century. The wisdom of Baby Boomers comes from their experiences, knowledge and intelligence. Wisdom is an elusive concept, present one minute and absent the next. Ancient and not so ancient philosophers wrestled with understanding what wisdom is and how to recognize it. I relied on my fellow baby boomers to help me understand wisdom to the best I could. Over 1500 boomer-year inputs are included in Boomerwisdom. This book is loaded with amusing, provocative, descriptive events, and real experiences. In addition to the importance of play and the influence of nature with nurture during boomer development, the 1960s decade was especially vital to the securing wisdom for the baby boomers. A synopsis of the relevance of the Vietnam War, Civil Rights, Rock and Roll Music, the Cold War, Civil Disobedience, Development of Nuclear Weapons, Violence, and Social Freedoms during the Sixties is presented. The influence of the components of wisdom – Experience, Knowledge, and Intelligence – motivated me to include four short stories that I couldn't have written if I didn't have at least a little bit of wisdom.

About The Author

The Baby Boomer generation began in 1946 and ended in 1964. At over 74 million births, it was likened to a python swallowing a pig as boomers aged into the 21st century. The wisdom of the Baby Boomers had to be communicated so I decided to write Boomerwisdom. My name is Brian Whelihan, a retired pharmaceutical analytical chemist and a baby boomer all my life. My generation is packed with technological and societal advances made possible by the freedom afforded us from the two previous generations. I lived within many venues including pharmaceutical science R&D, teaching high school and college, delivering people and newspapers, and making cheese. Every endeavor was packed with interesting experiences and knowledge; some of which made its way into wisdom. I am not new to the publishing arena, having published three other books- Opus 19, Rowl Role Roll Your Weigh, and Endearing Misfortune. Boomerwisdom is non fiction but also contains 4 short stories which are fictionally derived from wisdom.

Quillbot review Review of Boomerwisdom Boomerwisdom presents itself as an intriguing dive into the lived experiences and perspectives of the Baby Boomer generation, caught at the crossroads of history and modernity. While the genre might vary slightly depending on the author's approach—ranging from memoir and social commentary to cultural critique—the core premise revolves around capturing what this generation has to say to contemporary readers, often younger, navigating an ever-shifting world. This review aims to explore what makes Boomerwisdom stand out as a vessel of intergenerational dialogue and why it deserves attention in today's cultural landscape. What caught my attention initially about Boomerwisdom was its promise to bridge a gap frequently marked by misunderstanding and stereotyping. Rather than reiterate familiar grievance or nostalgia, it endeavors to unpack the nuanced lessons gleaned through decades brimming with social upheaval, technological revolutions, and changing values. This is a book that doesn’t shy away from complexity, inviting readers to engage critically with its content, whether they identify as Boomers or not. The strengths of Boomerwisdom lie in its candid voice and layered storytelling. The author’s prose is accessible yet layered with subtle wit and reflection, steering clear of didacticism. This tone helps humanize a generation often caricatured in popular culture, revealing multifaceted individuals who grappled with the tension between idealism and pragmatism. The book’s structure — a blend of essays, personal anecdotes, and sharp cultural observations — creates a rhythm that feels both personal and universal. Particularly impressive is how the book resists the temptation of rose-tinted retrospection. Instead, it acknowledges the contradictions inherent in the generation it portrays: a group that pursued progress but sometimes overlooked unintended consequences. This sense of honesty adds depth and credibility, encouraging empathy without glossing over faults. For example, the discussion surrounding work ethic and economic shifts insightfully untangles decades of complexity without resorting to simplistic blame. On the other hand, some readers might find Boomerwisdom occasionally weighed down by its own ambition. The scope is broad, and at moments the narrative feels somewhat diffuse, as it tries to encompass political, social, and cultural threads all at once. A tighter thematic focus could have lent the book even more punch. Additionally, younger readers less familiar with the historical context may find some references require extra effort to fully appreciate, though that might also spark curiosity to explore further. In conclusion, Boomerwisdom serves as a thoughtful, well-crafted contribution to the conversation about generational identity and legacy. It opens the door to useful reflection—not only about the Boomer generation's imprint on our world but also about how we understand the past to shape the future. Readers interested in cultural history, sociology, or memoir will appreciate its balance of insight and heart. Those looking for a quick or heavily narrated narrative might look elsewhere, but for those ready to engage with complexity, Boomerwisdom offers meaningful food for thought. Ultimately, the book prompts us to ask: How do we carry forward the wisdom of past generations while forging our own path amid unprecedented change? Boomerwisdom does not offer easy answers, but it grants the space for us to wrestle with this question in a world that continues to evolve rapidly. Read more
