Overview

From school bus to Facebook to these very pages, a collection of short stories, poems, and conversations adventured (or perhaps, misadventured) by the children, their bus driver, and a school bus that is not like any others in the fleet.  Ride along through a slightly magical landscape of farms and woods and houses as they make their way through a year’s journey to school.

Description

From real-life to these very pages, by way of Facebook, this book is an amusing and some times whimsical collection of only slightly fictionalized short stories, poems, and conversations that celebrate the spirit of young imagination and innocence and the power that spirit has to transform the everyday into something adventured (or perhaps even, misadventured).  Join the children, their bus driver, and the school bus that is not like any others in the fleet, as they ride their way through a slightly magical landscape of farms, woods, houses.  Come open the cover; it’s only a short year.  Nothing profound, just a light distraction.  Slide through the door and sit down, a school bus ride with the right set of eyes is not just for children.  This book is “Kid Friendly.”

Also, please note that these stories, poems, and conversations were collected and then brandished on to the very paper upon which they appear by the very school bus driver who drives the actual school bus that is not like any others in the fleet.  He used a candlestick and big feather pen (powerful magical tools) at night time, after giving his school bus a nice glass of warm oil and tucking it into bed.  To keep the stories on the page, please read out loud to others, as many as you can find...or the stories and ditties might leap off the pages and later, disturb the neighbors.

About the author

So, this is the spot where I am supposed to talk about myself.  For some, this is easy, but for me...well, let’s just say that I have typed this bio thing out quite a number of times without success.  So, I guess I will go with a straight forward approach and say this: yes, I actually am a school bus driver who works for a school district in western Wisconsin.  I live in the middle of western Wisconsin with my wife, two dogs, and a cat.  I suppose the only thing that is missing is a goldfish.  When I am not driving school bus, I write, draw, paint, perform, use a camera, build sculptures with objects found about the place...  Well, you get the idea.  I’ve been at the art thing for somewhere around 40 years.

I was born into art.  My whole family is really to blame, all storytellers, painters, performers, and the like.  I would sit and listen to the stories from the family farm and the railroad my father’s family was connected.  It is how I came to know History.  I started my art career when I created an “alter-ego” who has stayed with me for more than 40 years ago and given my art a bit of a child-like hue.  Yes, I am a child in adult clothing.

If you wish to see some of the visual art that I have created, find me on Facebook or Instagram.  Just look for Roy Edward Power.  I have two on-going series running in my posts: #VillageNews postings and #SchoolBusKids.  These postings were once numerous, but occasionally still appear. Also, once in a while my cartoon #Scribbles will appear.  You will find other goodies.  If you wish to see some more of my writing, you can venture to my “A Fool in the World” blog at royedwardpower.blogspot.com.  I have been using it as a writing lab, but am currently rethinking the blog’s possibilities.
