Description

The government of the United States is thrown into turmoil when President Wilson Turnbull is assassinated during his address to a large outdoor audience in Washington, D.C. However, the president wasn't the only high-level government official to be targeted. Following the brutal killing of the president, Vice President James Taylor, Attorney General Janice Ashton, Speaker of the House Marcus Smithson, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Joseph Greenbaum, and presidential adviser Elton Needleman were also promptly assassinated, leaving aging President pro tempore Calvin Gunderson to assume the presidency. Chaos erupted around the nation, giving the cadre of assassins ample time to escape the city and meet with the rest of their conspirators to plan their next moves. With the country in disarray, FBI agents John Bradshaw and Frank Lawrence begin an investigation into each assassination. But first, they must ensure the safety of the nation and deploy militia groups from Idaho and Texas to various stations across the country. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin was already in motion to establish control over what was left of the American government, and mysteriously, Secretary of State Esteban Darcia dies in Russia. When President Gunderson dies of a heart attack in his sleep, the presidency falls to Secretary of Defense Philip Swayze, who confronts his alcoholism as he addresses the endless problems of recovering from the sudden failure of the Turnbull government. His tasks include staging a convention to draft a major revision to the U.S. Constitution. Will he be able to take control of what remains of the U.S. government and bring the nation back to what it once was, while also pursuing the cadre of assassins who are determined to keep the country in chaos?

About The Author

John Christopher "Jack" Chandler was born in Mississippi, where he lived until his graduation from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering. During high school, he served on the student council, the staff of the school's award-winning newspaper, and the staff of the school's literary magazine. He also received recognition from his peers for his short fiction. After graduation, the Air Force called Jack to active duty. He graduated from pilot training at Laughlin AFB in Texas and reported for aircrew qualification in AC-119G Shadow gunships in Ohio. He served a year in Vietnam, earning six air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his 144 combat missions in Southeast Asia. He flew cargo versions of the C-119 after his return from the war zone. Following his release from active duty, Jack accepted an engineering position in construction overview of the Fast Flux Test Facility in Hanford, Washington. During his time at Hanford, he wrote several papers and technical reports on fast reactor core design and completed work for an advanced degree in nuclear engineering at the University of Washington. Following his work at Hanford, Jack worked in nuclear fuel management for the Middle South Utilities system (now known as Entergy) and in nuclear fuel design and analysis for Exxon Nuclear Company (now part of Framatome). During this time, he authored a substantial number of technical reports supporting operating licenses and methodology for client utilities. After leaving Exxon Nuclear, Jack worked as an independent consultant to the nuclear power industry for several years. He continued to maintain software and prepare portions of technical reports for client utilities, who used them to qualify their own safety analysis capabilities with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. After a successful consulting run, Jack went back to work for his most recent employer, then known as Framatome, writing computer programs and building the software quality assurance program for nuclear engineering. He later retired from Framatome after 13 years. For many years, Jack has enjoyed kayaking, sailing, Nordic and alpine skiing, fly fishing, backpacking, rock and ice climbing, golf, and road tripping. Currently, he lives on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean on Washington's north beach peninsula.
