About The Author
Living on the Big Island of Hawai'i is an experience that transcends the typical definition of
"Residence." It's an immersion into a world of raw, untamed beauty, a constant dance with the elements, and a profound connection to the 'Aina (land). The blessings are numerous, and they permeate every aspect of daily life.
One of the most significant blessings is the sheer diversity of the landscape. From the snow-capped peaks of Mauna Kea to the fiery glow of Kilauea, and the lush, verdant rainforests of Hilo to the stark, black sand beaches of Punaluu, the Big Island offers a constantly evolving panorama. This diversity translates to a richness of experience, where one can hike through volcanic craters in the morning and snorkel in crystal-clear bays in the afternoon.
The "aloha spirit" is not just a phrase; it is a living, breathing essence that infuses the community.
There is a sense of interconnectedness, of 'ohana (family), that fosters a supportive and welcoming
environment. Respect for nature, for the land, and for each other is palpable, creating a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere.
The cultural richness of the Big Island is another profound blessing. The deep respect for Hawaiian
traditions, the vibrant hula performances, and the ancient chants and ceremonies offer a glimpse into
a rich and enduring heritage. To be able to experience these cultural aspects is a gift.
My desire to share these blessings through a book of art stems from a deep sense of gratitude.
The Big Island has profoundly influenced my artistic vision, inspiring me to capture the raw beauty
and spiritual essence of this extraordinary place. Through my art, I aim to convey the emotions evoked by the dramatic landscapes, the vibrant colors of the flora and fauna, and the subtle nuances of the
island's energy.
Publishing this book is not merely about displaying my artwork; it is about sharing the transformative power of the Big Island. I hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty and fragility of our planet,
to embrace the aloha spirit, and to cultivate a deeper connection to the natural world. By sharing my
artistic interpretations of this magical island, I hope to extend the blessings of the Big Island to a
wider audience.
