The author's family has to survive hunger and nightly bombings in Hitler’s war-torn Germany. As the war draws to a close, the father has to hide from the SS and the Gestapo, and when the family tries to return home, the path is blocked by an American tank. Mr Gansel, tells the story as he experienced it as a child. Laced with tales of terror and humor.

The author lives in Florida. He joined the Florida Writers Association and has published numerous articles in its pages. He has published short stories in four of the assosciations annual collections. Mr. Gansel is also the winner of the 2007 St. Petersburg College, Carolyn Parker Fiction Award.
