Overview
After falling in love with bicycling in the late 1970s, Kevin embarked on a tour from San Francisco down the California coast with three friends. He was hooked. His second journey was a much longer endeavor: cycling across America from Southern California to New York City. The third was riding the Trans-America Bicycle Route from Oregon to Virginia with his wife. Each trip was filled with breathtaking scenery, unpredictable weather, wonderful people, and pure adventure. His book is pulled directly from the journals he kept, blending personal stories with the history of the places he crossed. After 150,000 lifetime miles and over 60 tours, it is time for him to share these journeys. He hopes they motivate readers to launch an adventure of their own.

Kevin Ansel has crossed the United States five times, completely self-supported and self-contained. Along with these cross-country adventures, he has tackled several iconic routes, including the GAP/C&O, Katy Trail, George S. Mickelson Trail, Grand Canyon Connector, and Empire State Trail. Having seen much of America from behind his handlebars, Kevin also ventured into competitive cycling. He has completed countless century events and numerous ultra-distance races of 200-plus miles. An all-around outdoorsman, Kevin also enjoys hiking, kayaking, and exploring the world alongside his wife and touring partner in Southern California.
