A House Divided: The Porters of Niagara

Tells the life stories of Elizabeth Porter and her brother, Peter a. Porter, who grew up in the Niagara area of New York State in the early decades of the nineteenth century. Their history involves the divisions between North and South, the Underground Railroad, the run-up to the Civil War and their participation in that struggle. The book is a combination of fact and fiction.

Characters in the book include other members of the Porter family who were pioneers and entrepreneurs on the Niagara Frontier, runaway slaves and freed slaves, members of the Seneca nation and wealthy citizens of New York City, Florida, Kentucky and Niagara.

Born Buffalo NY, 5/20/33. Educated Branksome Hall, Toronto, Middlebury College, Sorbonne. Lived in many parts of the world. Now living in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mother of 4 children, grandmother of 3. Has previously written books for children and some plays and poetry.
