By Ron and Kay Yearby

Overview

As a sense of obligation to record history and as a tribute to our parents, we have created this book, "A History in Images Volume 2: The Kennedy Gymnasium". This book is the second in a series that will display historical images from the collection of Ferman and Joyce Yearby. This collection includes images taken in Rockport and Spencer County, plus other surrounding Indiana communities.

Description

The Kennedy Gymnasium, in Rockport, Indiana, was built in 1924, remodeled in 1950, and torn down in 1980. This book will display over 1400 pictures and thousands of recognizable faces of teams, coaches, players, performers, fans, and many others. Most of the pictures displayed in this book are from 1950 through the late 1970's. This book also displays some basketball events that took place at other venues during this timeframe. In addition, there are also some pictures after SSHS moved to REO in 1975.  This book encompasses basketball, homecomings, cheerleaders, pep bands, pep clubs, GAA, volleyball, concert bands, choral groups, plays and musicals, graduation and distinction days, and special activities. As a bonus, it includes some area sectional winners and a tribute to Linda Yearby. Through these pictures, we hope to preserve some memories that will last forever.
