Overview
A Book is Like a Baby is humorous, beautifully illustrated, and teaches young children to be responsible by using their understanding of protecting and caring for babies as a means to teach them the proper way to handle books with love.
Description
Books don't self-destruct. They are destroyed. By people. By people specifically, I mean KIDS! This is not because children don't love books. Sure, they love them, but do they cherish them and appreciate them as the wonderful-full-of-knowledge-thought-provoking-and-phenomenal-works-of-art they are? Of course not! Kids don't think about stuff like that. As a school librarian, I've seen once beautiful books come back ruined due to improper handling. There are very few books on the market to use for lessons on proper book upkeep. The only thing that seemed to help my youngest students understand the need to nurture books, was to put this in the most relatable idea of care: Treat books like babies! In A Book Is Like A Baby, we realize just how much books and babies need the same type of attention from their caregivers- Being held properly, feeling protected, how not to put glue on them...You know, typical babysitting standards. Written with the youngest students in mind, this picture book will be a must-have in school classrooms and libraries worldwide. Showcasing children of various ethnicities and abilities, A Book Is Like A Baby breaks the fourth wall by asking its reader to question how they should treat their favorite tiny humans using comparable examples of mistreated books. Filled with thought-provoking humor and engaging illustrations, A Book Is Like A Baby delivers its message to a global audience, making us all think twice before we toss that book we've been reading across the room.
