Description
This collection of poems is a companion for you as you walk through the seasons of change in your life. This book is a window into the transgender experience for everyone, those with a shared lived experience, and those who are seeking more understanding. These poems are the sweat of gender transition, the tears of trauma and the kernels of the reclamation of authentic self. This book is drenched in support from the healing power of nature, who is the ultimate teacher on embracing death and dying to make way for living life to its fullest. What you are about to experience is the veneration of the process of meeting one's own pain and tender vulnerability. It is in this encounter that oppressive structures, worn out coping strategies and opaque distracting clutter pass away, giving rise to a surprising and refreshing down-to-the-bone self-intimacy and realness. Lady Death will support you in being gentle with yourself as you experience, loss, change and deepening in authenticity.

The Gift of Insight I feel so incredibly honored as a cis-gendered woman to have received the gift of insight that this well crafted book of poetry provides. While it’s truth applies to all humans, as the journey through change overtakes all who are willing to grow at some point, it’s the offering to experience something foreign to me from the point of view of someone else that I value most from this collection. Those who continue to be marginalized in our culture who are willing to share so vulnerably as Keath Silva has done, help us to get closer to a world of understanding and inclusion for all. Though I was entranced and read the whole book in a single sitting, I can tell I will visit them again many times throughout my life and also look forward to the precious moments when I can also read them to my children. Humanity is home I bring this book with me when I retreat on my own into the natural world. With a thoughtful yet stream of consciousness flow brings me back again and again. This collection of poems weaves a theme that the journey has a beauty all its own. It teaches that if we listen and honor our truest selves, what springs forth is the scaffolding of authentic life. From within, one can make a uniquely imperfect home that traverses each adventure and adversity with content observation and respect for all. Death is the road to awe. Read more

Refuge from the storm These poems reached out and pulled me in, like a helping hand on a stormy night, they embraced me like an elder comforting a child, they offered me warmth and light and water for my soul, and held witness as I cried and laughed and took deep breaths— startled that not only had I made it this far, but I was not alone. Choose kindness Keath's work is inspiring to all. From the second you pick up the book, you will not want to put it down. The depths of emotion and sincerity contained within is awe inspiring. It teaches us to be accepting of one another rather than dividing each other with judgement. We are all human beings working together to make this world a better place. Read more

Voice for Our Time Keath Silva has a voice of such profound clarity, depth and self-honesty that it illuminates everything it touches. Add to that the fact that he has used it to trace the trail of his transgender journey, and I believe this is an important work for exactly this moment in history. Lady Death should be read far and wide. Keath's accomplishment, on so many levels, deserves to be celebrated. Read more

Internal landscapes This book of poems contains an incredible journey into internal landscapes of transgender experience. Keath Silva skillfully and lovingly winds us through both an inner and outer world of bone and sky, roses and starlight... Reminding us of the ways we are held by this earth in challenging times. Emotions rooted in the body, personal growth and transformation. It was an absolute delight to read, I cannot recommend Keath's work enough. Read more

Lady Death is a Winner! I highly recommend Lady Death and Other Poems Venerating Change for everyone. Most of us have had experiences of feeling vulnerable, shamed, unworthy, and the associated hurt, pains, and conditioning upon which our identities have been built. These moving poems are of a hero’s journey of dissonance to wholeness--they touched me deeply. Not only do they offer a “window into the transgender experience,” they beckon us to pay attention to our similarities rather than our differences. It is through this realization that healing begins for all of us. Read more
