Overview

This book is a collection of my family recipes made healthy. Food impacts our wellness to a huge extent. By substituting not so healthy ingredients with healthy ones I have modified my family recipes keeping their original integrity and taste.

Description

This book is a collection of my family recipes made healthy. Growing up, I was exposed to many different flavors from all over the world. My family is Armenian with Russian background. As a child, I remember my mom making delicious meals from scratch every day. She introduced me to cooking and baking homemade foods of every description. I remember her making homemade yogurt and fruit compotes and jams. When grapes were in the season, it was time for making wine! My mom, Louise Marterossian, was the inspiration for me to write this cookbook. She taught me how to cook and shared her cooking secrets with me. For all the wonderful memories and happy family times and for all the delicious meals that we have shared. She still cooks amazing food with love, and it is one of the reasons our families look forward getting together at her place – to enjoy her delicious food! Food doesn't just nourish our bodies—it nourishes our souls in many ways. Food creates connections. It brings us together in shared appreciation. Not all recipes are totally healthy, but they provide for something deep inside you that goes beyond physical hunger—hence the term "comfort food." Occasionally we all need that! I have included all types of recipes in this book, including more than 100 vegetarian and vegan recipes, for just that reason—to nourish both body and soul. Most recipes are healthy, though a few are a little more decadent—we all need to indulge sometimes. At the end of each recipe, under "Notes," you will find alternative recipe suggestions, nutritional facts and health benefits, ideas on what to pair the recipe with, and other tips and suggestions. Nowadays majority struggle with some form of illness and persistent ailment. There are many chronic conditions we battle in the modern age: chronic fatigue, inflammation, digestive issues, autoimmune diseases, and more. Truly, what we consume makes a difference, and can even alleviate many of these conditions. Processed food is more readily available these days than ever before. But it contributes to our problems: we need to limit our consumption of processed foods and make time to cook more often in our kitchens using real ingredients. This is an investment in our health that will be well worth our time and effort—the returns will be tenfold, if not more!

She is a mother and a wife, and enjoys creative healthy cooking and outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, volleyball and cycling, as well as yoga and Pilates. Review of Annette's Kitchen This is a great cookbook and guide for healthy eating. I am a man who has just retired, is trying to eat healthy, and doesn't know his way around the kitchen very well, and this book is a great find. Eating healthy can get a little dull, but regular cookbooks tend to be full of recipes that load in the flour and sugar, and contradict what you are trying to do. I love how Annette's recipes are based on whole and natural ingredients, but add some class and flavor to the meals. Her salad recipes are amazing, and especially my favorite, strawberry and broccolini salad. And the Miso Glazed Black Cod and the Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms are heavenly. I'm down 35 lbs since retiring and gaining confidence in the kitchen. I recommend. Read more

Phenomenal Meal! My fiancé and I were gifted this cookbook by my aunt and uncle as an engagement gift, as my family knows how much we love cooking healthy, nutritious meals. Last night, we made Annette's Yellow Split Pea Stew, and it was outstanding! We are vegetarian, so we appreciated her suggestion to use mushrooms in the dish. She combines innovative ingredients with ingredients that nearly everyone has around the house, and breaks down the process of cooking that so that it is simple. I'm so happy we doubled the recipe so that we can have left overs all week! And we've already started planning one of Annette's salads for our lunch! Read more

Annette's Kitchen I bought this cookbook because every recipe has a beautiful picture of what it looks like. The instructions are easy to follow, the skill level is easy to moderate, and the recipes work. The things I have made so far have come out just like the pictures, which is a big deal to me. I would recommend this cookbook to anyone looking for authentic Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern dishes. At the end of the book, there is a section called Health Tips that you will definitely want to read which simplifies many areas in cooking that will make a difference in your diet yet are easy to understand and follow such as the importance of fiber, how to properly store food, and which fats are good. Best of all is Annette’s 80/20 Rule: eat nutritious food 80 percent of the time and indulge in your guilty pleasures 20 percent of the time. I appreciate this balanced attitude towards diet and eating. I definitely recommend this cookbook to anyone who enjoys making home-cooked, healthy meals for their family. Read more

Annette's Kitchen Family Food Made Fun and Easy We were fortunate enough to recently be invited to a neighborhood event where Annette provided appetizers and dinner for about 30 people. She prepared 3 dishes for dinner, all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. I purchased her book and have enjoyed looking through it. It has some fabulous recipes, several of which I have already prepared...and each recipe is accompanied by a beautiful photo of the dish. Annette obviously has a passion for cooking and entertaining and it's quite obvious that family and food are very important to her. This book is a great addition to your cookbook collection and would make a very nice gift for anyone who loves to cook...or better yet, anyone who loves to eat!! And the good news is that a book devoted strictly to desserts is in the works...I will need to have that one also. Well done, Annette!! Read more

Annette's Kitchen(or as I call it heaven on earth) Finally a cook book with real recipes easy to follow. Beautiful pictures sure makes it more fun and of course helps with the expectations. Annette's healthy choices and all the options she provides make cooking and eating both fun and guilt free. She has her childhood experience in mind when she makes the food and to me it just feels like I am having my own mom next to me to guide me through the process. I cannot wait to go through all the recipes one by one.. and I am counting down for her desert book to come out. Very happy with the process of purchasing, with the price, and of course the quality of book itself. Very thoughtful to make the cover and all the pages super durable considering people will be using it near food and liquids. Happy cooking everyone! Read more
