About the author
Walter Francis Block was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents Walter and Helen Czaja Block emigrated from Poland. He attended St. Francis of Assisi School and St. Bonaventure Minor Seminary and Prep High School in Wisconsin. After a short stay as a seminarian, he graduated from Loyola University and the University of Chicago School of Business. Married to Susan Streck Block in 1963, they enjoyed the births of their six children, Wally, Therese, Tim, Tom, Marty, and Chris. Walter's family has been the reason for his happiness in life. His dedication and strong belief in God led him to dedicate his work energy at Loyola University, Benedictine University, St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital, the Assumption of Province of the Franciscans, and the Robert Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House. He is also active in his church community at Our Lady of Peace in Darien, Illinois. Wally's favorite past times in addition to fishing have been gardening, observing birds, polka dancing, and traveling abroad to visit relatives in Poland and other European countries. He has enjoyed playing sports his entire life especially baseball and basketball and is an avid, lifelong Chicago Cub fan. His hope is to challenge others to write about their favorite topics and to share their unique stories as well.
