Most of his professional life was spent prospecting and exploring for gold and other minerals; this involved extensive travel and lengthy periods of time in and around small mining towns across Northern Canada (the "bush"). His principal employer was well-known Canadian mining entrepreneur J.P. (Pat) Sheridan Sr. Max is now retired and lives in Montreal with family. In 1979, Max discovered his writing bug and has since written over 800 poems, some published on Poetry.com and some compiled in 20 books. He has written over 7,000 songs, singing and performing some 280 of them in various locations including Reno, Nevada and on YouTube. Max has had his MaxJuby.com website for 2 years and today, at age 910, continues his prolific production by writing two or three new songs every single day.

Chimo-Kuujjuaq: My Time in Kuujjuaq by Maxton Juby | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/chimo-kuujjuaqThis book, written in verse, tells the history of and life in the town of Kuujjuaq, then (in 2008) also known as Fort Chimo. The town has received sudden prominence as the birthplace and hometown of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, who in 2021 became Canada's 30th Governor General. For three consecutive summers, I was in Kuujjuaq and assisted on a helicopter electromagnetic and magnetic survey in the Ungava area on the west side of Ungava Bay. This is where mineral deposits were known, but not yet producing (at that time). The areas we surveyed were on the west side of Ungava Bay from Kuujjuaq (then, Fort Chimo) to the villages to the north, including Tasiujaq, Aupaluk, and Kangirsuk. Kuujjuaq, the largest town has a population of over two thousand people, though I did not get to spend much time in the town. The people of Kuujjuaq were well mannered, and many were occupied with fishing and hunting, but I did not get to know many of them. It was definitely a much different lifestyle than the farm life I had growing up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, southeast of Montreal.eBook, Paperback

Black Pearl and Kate: A Groundbreaking Prospecting Woman by Maxton Juby | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/black-pearl-and-kateThis is the story, written in verse, of the life and times of prospector Kate Rice and her important role in finding gold in the Snow Lake, Manitoba area, which has led to various mining projects in the area including one known as Black Pearl Exploration. Kate was born in 1880 in the town of St Mary's in Southern Ontario. She graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours degree in mathematics and worked as a teacher for a few years. She was over six feet tall, and learned good bush skills and the Cree language, and went on to become a well-respected mineral prospector in Northern Manitoba. Most of her bush travelling was by canoe and on foot. She took on a male prospecting partner, Richard Dick Woosey, who had served in the British army in India and in the Boer War, before moving to Canada. They lived together in a log cabin on an island on Wekusko Lake where they both fished, hunted, and prospected. He had a gold prospect that was sold but never made much money from this project. She had a nickel-copper prospect that International Nickel (Inco) optioned for $45,000 cash. One day in 1940, while having a haircut, her partner Woosey suddenly died from a heart attack. He was buried with a military funeral in The Pas, Manitoba. She bravely continued alone in the north for several more years, before settling in a nursing home near Brandon Manitoba, where she died in 1963 at age 80. In 2013, after this book was written, she would be inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame and was honoured and respected for her challenges and successes as a prospector.eBook, Paperback

The Prospector: Life and Times of Prospectors in the Bush by Maxton Juby | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/the-prospectorThis is the story, written in verse, telling the stories of prospectors on the Yukon Gold Rush in the 1890s, which took prospectors from around the world up to Dawson City (at the junction of the Klondike and Yukon rivers), and even further north into Alaska. Later, it touches on newer mining developments in Northern Ontario and Northern Quebec. It tells of what prospectors had to go through, the realities of the harsh conditions of Mother Nature, and the trials and tribulations of prospecting in the difficult situations of the remote Yukon Klondike at the very beginning of the 20th century, when canoe, steamboat, horseback, and foot travel were the only options, steamboat if you were lucky (and could afford it). The Prospector also describes the problems and challenges that a modern-day prospector experiences. It also mentions of recent mining activities in Northern Quebec and Northern Ontario including the story of the Raglan Nickel mine in in the Nunavik region of Northern Quebec, prospected in the 1930s, and the big Kidd Creek mine just north of Timmins, prospected in the 1960s. By this time bush planes and helicopters become part of the prospector's toolkit. On top of the trials and technical challenges of prospecting, the brutal weather of these regions, they also had to contend with wild animals. Log Cabins: An Epic Poem About Old-time Prospectors for Gold by Maxton Juby | BookBaby Bookshophttps://store.bookbaby.com/book/log-cabinsThis book, written in verse, tells of my own prospecting experiences and Impressions, and was written while in the bush in 1979. The book describes various mining camps in Canada, and the log cabins prospectors lived in. It starts in relatively recent times looking at the discovery of silver mines in the Cobalt-Haileybury area of Northeastern Ontario in the early 1900s, and then the search for Gold in the Red Lake area of northwestern Ontario in the 1930s and takes us into more recent times. Red Lake, Ontario, then was (and still is) a small gold-mining town, where in 1968 I met and married a 37 year old widow with three children. The story also goes back to the Yukon Klondike Gold Rush, which forced prospectors to make a long climb on foot over the Chilkoot Pass and then cross Lake Bennett. The book tells of Klondike Mike, who carried his piano over the Chilkoot Pass, and arrived in the Yukon very exhausted at the end of that trek. Of course, it tells of many details of the town of Dawson, deep in the land of sand and gold. In recent news (2016) a new significant Klondike discovery was made by a prospector from Timmins, Ontario, whom I met at the Prospectors and Developers Annual Convention (PDAC) which says they have found the source of the placers, the Mother Lode.eBook, Paperback
