When I was born the odds percentage wise on me becoming an English Premier League or back then in 1985 a First Division player was and still is 0.012%. I didn’t realise the odds were that small, apparently It’s easier to become a brain surgeon.
From the very day I played the game I had nothing else on my mind that I wanted to be when I grew up. I had many people trying to tell me otherwise, “Do you know what your chances are of going pro” “If I was you I’d have a plan B” Still to this day It doesn't matter how greater a task is in front of me. If it’s on me to achieve it, I fancy my chances of achieving it.
The idea about writing a book came about during the height of COVID. I had thought about it a few years earlier but when I put pen to paper there was no flow and I had too many brain freeze moments. As we had more isolated times during COVID this time around everything seemed to come together from start to finish. My mind was much clearer and I had planned an overall view of three parts of my career. Starting out as an apprentice, then becoming the player and now the coach. Within those sections of my life I have broken it down into chapters. While writing this I’m already thinking of an edited version of the book that could include a fourth part Marv the Manager but I’m still unsure if that is a road I would like to go down.
I started a podcast during COVID barely understanding what one was a few months before appearing on one. I appeared on my co host podcast talking about my career at Luton Town. Our podcast is called Mybestelvenpod and we talk to ex teammates of mine or players I’ve played against or even celebrity fans. They come on and talk about the best eleven they have played with or seen if you are a fan. A guest to mention very well known especially here in the States is a good friend of mine Rebecca Lowe. Rebecca is the face of English Premier League Soccer here in the USA and is married to a close friend of mine.
Without giving away too much more about the book, I talk about my clothing brand I set up a year ago The Marvelous Store. Also what looked like from afar a deep meaningful conversation with one of The Beatles and an American rapper born in Brooklyn, New York.
I do hope you enjoy the book as much as I did writing it, thank you for taking the time to come to my bio.
Marv
