Photographer and author Rosie McGee lived, worked, and traveled with the Grateful Dead during their first decade as a band. Her candid photographs of the band have appeared in dozens of books, films and magazines; and she's widely respected in the Deadhead community for her photography and as an early-days tribal storyteller.
In 2012, she self-published, "Dancing with the Dead--A Photographic Memoir 1964-1974", an intimate look at the adventures she shared with the band as a member of their core family. The book is illustrated with 200 of Rosie's photos.
in 2021, she published a coffee table art book of her Grateful Dead photos, which sold out of two printings.
In 2026, she turned 80 and self-published, "And THEN What Happened? 1974-2003", in which she chronicles the years after (she thought) she left the Grateful Dead behind. From a converted lifeboat in Sausalito, to a school bus in the mountains, to a house in a suburban cul-de-sac, to a dorm room at the Grand Canyon - Rosie's optimism and adaptability helped her overcome continuous obstacles to living a quiet and peaceful life.
She currently lives in Oregon, where she enjoys time with her family, photographing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, writing, making art, managing her photo/publishing company and dancing to live music.
