About the Author

Author Info

Former science teacher, Peter Macfarlane, emigrated from the U.K. to take up residence in Vermont, U.S.A. Here he pursues life not only as a performing musician but also as a builder of cedar-strip canoes, building his own designs, running a small-scale business, Otter Creek Smallcraft.

Aside from building canoes, Peter is also an avid paddler, disappearing on canoe-camping trips whenever other commitments allow. It is this which has kindled in him the desire to embark on longer solo journeys of the type that have spawned his first foray into authorship in The Wolf Faces Backwards, an account of a pair of matching book-end journeys made to celebrate significant age milestones.

He lives in Vermont with his wife, Viveka Fox, his partner in life, music and tandem canoes; plays fiddle and more in a couple of bands and other combinations; leads the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra; teaches canoeing at Adirondack Camp, a summer camp on Lake George; and builds canoes and paddles on commission.
