Michelle Field is a psychiatrist, artist, mother, and grandmother whose creative voice was birthed into becoming through a profound medical and spiritual journey. In 2021, following a hysterectomy, she went into septic shock, was placed in a medically induced coma, and experienced multi-organ failure and three cardiac arrests. Her survival marked the beginning of years of physical recovery, emotional upheaval, and a deep search for meaning and human belonging.

Turning to painting, collage, and expressive writing, Michelle discovered poetry as a powerful path toward healing. Her work reflects both her clinical understanding of the human psyche and her lived experience as a patient navigating trauma, grief, loss of faith, and the slow return of hope.

Her debut collection, A Field of Fire & Flowers, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative role of creativity in recovery. Today, she writes to help other survivors of critical illness feel less alone and to honor the beauty and fragility of being alive.
