Author Info

Liza Farrow-Gillespie is an attorney, musician, and author. She has published articles in several major national sailing magazines, including Ocean Navigator, Cruising World, and Blue Water Sailing. Ms. Farrow-Gillespie has been a breast cancer survivor since 1991 and is now battling stage 4 ovarian cancer, diagnosed in 2018.

Upon returning to land life after the sailing circumnavigation chronicled in her book A Voyage of Heart and Song, Liza co-founded what is now the largest (non-virtual) woman-owned law firm in Dallas, Texas. She has won many awards for her legal work, including appearing on the lists of Texas Super Lawyers and Top 50 Women Lawyers in Texas (Thomson Reuters services) and Best Lawyers in Dallas (D Magazine). Before law school, Liza was a studio singer in Austin and Los Angeles, where she sang backup vocals on soundtracks for films including Out of Africa and Money Pit, and for commercials, television shows, and recording artists. She still sings at local jazz dives from time to time.

Liza Farrow-Gillespie is presently at work on two nonfiction books, tentatively entitled Ovarian Barbarian, and What I Know About Life I Learned on a Sailboat, as well as a novel about four female friends surviving law school together.

Liza has been married since 1984 to her high school sweetheart, Alan Farrow-Gillespie, M.D., who is a pediatric anesthesiologist and former captain in the United States Air Force. Liza and Alan were born and raised in Temple, Texas, and now reside in Dallas, Texas.
